6 Reasons Disposal Leaks From Bottom (Causes & Fix), Garbage Disposal Comprehensive Guide Part 1

https://youtu.be/khAepTwgdTI Found a leak coming from your garbage disposal? If your disposal is leaking, it’s important to fix it quickly. In this most comprehensive guide, we’ll tell you how to know if your garbage disposal is leaking, possible causes and, of course, ways to fix it. If you notice bad smells or dampness in the cupboard where your garbage disposal is, or if you see a puddle or water dripping out the cupboard onto the kitchen floor, you should listen for leaks or use your hands to feel for wetness at the locations shown in this video. Be aware that the leak may have come from the top and dripped to the bottom (the video demonstrates leaks from the reset button at the bottom), so make sure to check exactly where the leak comes from, including:

  1. leaks from between the sink & flange
  2. leaks from between flange & disposal
  3. leaks from between disposal & dishwasher
  4. leaks from between disposal & drain
  5. ,6. leaks from inside disposal

Of course, on rare occasions, you could find the disposal casing cracked or the sink itself cracked, but those are very rare, and obviously you would need to replace. Some different designs could have other holes or places to check, but the most common kind of models are shown here. Knowing the cause can help you to fix it and prevent it from happening again. Here are the 6 common reasons your garbage disposal might have sprung a leak and fix suggestions:

  1. If water is leaking from between the sink & the sink flange, that means that the plumber’s putty or bolts have come loose.
  2. If water is leaking from between flange & disposal, worn gaskets may be the cause.
  3. If water is leaking from between disposal’s dishwasher inlet & dishwasher hose, it could be on the side of the disposer, or could be a dishwasher connection issue. The metal clamps could be loose, or there’s a crack in or issue with the hose itself. If you don’t have a dishwasher, this hole should be sealed tight.
  4. If water is leaking from between disposal & drain, it could be the gasket is worn, or could be a loose connection, screws loose, or cracks in the drains, all of which are common over time.
  5. , 6. If water is leaking from inside the disposal, you need to open the bottom half of the disposal and check seals, and look for cracks in the metal.

Of course, remember to be safe – turn off the power to the unit and unplug!! Water and electricity don’t mix. In this video, for each of the 6 leaking places, we will show you exactly how to remove the corresponding responsible parts only, no need to waste time removing parts unnecessarily. We also share our tips for shopping for new garbage disposal with different warranties,
