Saint Martin / Sint Maarten Top 2 Travel  – Maho Beach Airplane Landings & Scuba Diving

https://youtu.be/sIlqidgbSKo Saint Martin is a beautiful Caribbean island and the first stop on our Virgin Voyages cruise aboard the Resilient Lady after departing Puerto Rico. This video captures two of the most talked-about experiences on the island: watching airplanes land directly over Maho “Airplane” Beach and trying scuba diving for the first time.

After arriving at the cruise port, we took a shuttle bus about 20–30 minutes to Maho Beach, one of the most unique beaches in the Caribbean. The airport runway sits just across the road from the beach, and airplanes fly in extremely low overhead before landing. During our visit, we saw everything from small propeller planes to relatively large commercial jets passing just above the sand. This was our first Caribbean beach stop, and the warm sun and clear water made it an unforgettable introduction to the region.

After spending a couple of hours at Maho Beach, we returned by shuttle to the cruise port to prepare for an introductory scuba diving experience with one of the local tour operators. This was a beginner-friendly dive designed to teach the basics and give first-time divers a chance to experience being underwater.

We were not allowed to take a GoPro into the water, as the guides emphasized that beginners should focus fully on their skills rather than cameras. After the instruction, we geared up and performed a backward entry off the boat into the water. It was a little scary at first, and the pressure on the ears was noticeable, but three of the four of us eventually made it down to about nine meters. One person decided to stop early because the group pace felt stressful.

Overall, it was an interesting first scuba experience, even if we’re not sure it’s something we want to continue long-term. Combined with the excitement of Maho Beach, it made for a memorable day exploring what makes Saint Martin such a unique Caribbean destination.
