Fix Water Leak from Under Glove Box in 1 Minute at Zero Cost

Water gushing onto the passenger floor from under the glove box is alarming but often has a simple cause. While a leaking windshield seal is possible, the more common culprit is a clogged drain tube. In this video, Dr. David Zhang demonstrates how to clear the blockage in under one minute at zero cost.

The Cause

The drain tube beneath the cowl in front of the windshield allows water from rain and air conditioner condensation to exit the vehicle. Small leaves and debris can clog this tube, causing water to accumulate and eventually overflow into the cabin through the heater/AC system near the blower motor.

The Fix

Locate the drain tube exit point underneath the vehicle. Use a thin wire, compressed air, or even just pressure from a garden hose to clear the blockage. Warning: be prepared for a large volume of accumulated water to rush out when the clog clears.

Prevention

Periodically clearing leaves and debris from the cowl area in front of the windshield reduces the chance of the drain tube clogging. This is especially important in autumn when falling leaves are abundant.
